I didn’t think I was going to be able to go. My decision was a last-minute one. Though I had been wanting to see Alice in concert for years, it seemed circumstances were conspiring against me. When I finally did decide to take the plunge and buy tickets, I doubted I’d get anything better than nosebleed seats. The nosebleed section is fine, when large video screens are offered in such an arena show. I watched Aerosmith and KISS both from the high bleachers, and enjoyed the show no less than if I’d been front row. (Okay, maybe a LITTLE less.) Imagine my surprise, though, when I found tickets on the floor, in the SECOND FRIKKIN’ ROW, for little more than I would have paid for those in the nosebleed section. Turns out some guy had bought them early on, then it so happened that he couldn’t go, so he sold them via an online ticket supplier. Poor guy. But his loss was my gain.
From the voiceover intro by Vincent Price to the decapitation and the body spraying fake blood out into the audience; the love song to poor, dead Cold Ethyl and her subsequent resurrection as Nurse Rozetta, who is then murdered again by Alice, resulting in his being restrained in a straitjacket, from which he escapes and then murders the again-resurrected nurse AGAIN, which leads to the guillotine segment—oh, and we mustn’t forget the twelve-foot-tall Frankenstein Monster, or the python, or Alice going into his HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES trope and offering a series of tributes to deceased musicians—Let me just say it was a damn fine show, for music lovers and Horror buffs alike. (Perhaps the best I’ve seen, if I’m really honest.) Hurry back to town, Alice!
