Review of Bites of Passion: An Anthology of Vampire Erotica

To some vampires may be nothing more than hideous monsters preying upon the innocent, but to most others, vampires are the ultimate sex symbol. The sensual power, the chance of eternal love, the eroticism of blood lust – vampires scream sex, and what better way to get your steamy vampire fix than with a book of vampire erotica? I recently fulfilled my cravings with Bites of Passion, an anthology edited by the queen of erotica, Cecilia Tan. Whenever I am looking for a flawless collection of naughty stories I go to Cecilia’s collections – they have everything you want… and more.

Bites of Passion consists of eight lustful tales written by Jessi Holhart, Eric Del Carlo, Ed Fuqua, Rakella Valencia, F.R.R. Mallory, A. N. Cortez, A. M. Hartnett, and Thomas Marcinko. The authors authors explore themes of immortal love, the lust for blood (and other things), and the eternal struggle between light and dark.

Like most anthologies, there were stories in the collection that I absolutely loved and others that were just meh. One favorite was Bloodways by Eric Del Carlo. Very rarely do I find myself enjoying erotica written by men, nothing against the authors, but they never seem to get my blood pumping – this one did though. I adored how it differed from so many other erotic vampire tales, I loved the chase, the hunting of prey. I wasn’t a huge fan of some of the word choices, but overall I very much enjoyed Bloodways. Another story I liked was The Ballad of Nosferatu by A. N. Cortez. It was an eerie, yet mesmerizing, blend of horror and lust. The Ballad of Nosferatu is definitely a unique take on vampire erotica.

I could go into every story, but I’ll leave some mystery. Overall, I enjoyed Bites of Passion. It wasn’t the best collection of Tan’s I have read, but that’s mainly due to the number of stories. Eight simply isn’t enough for me. But those eight tales were what I expect from Tan, stories that push boundaries and aren’t in any shape or form considered “vanilla.” Who wants a vanilla vampire tale? Blegh.

Bites of Passion is definitely a book I recommend for those looking for something darker and lustier.
