Review of Blood Hunter #1

Thanks to that awesome vampire section on Comixology I discovered yet another fangtastic vampire comic – Blood Hunter written and illustrated by Loren Meyer. I checked out the first issue of this dark and twisted vampire comic and it’s definitely a different kind of undead tale.

“In a world ruled by vampires, the life of the last living human on earth surfaces. The baby’s fate lies in the hands of Vincent, a lone vampire warrior.”

Here’s the breakdown:

Artwork: 4.5 out of 5
Loren Meyer really has his own very unique style and I loved it. I love when comic book artists go their own route instead of sticking with the overdone styles we have seen in countless comics. Not only was the artwork unique, it fit the dark landscape perfectly. In a world overrun by crazed and sadistic vampires you expect to find dark and haunting artwork, and that’s what Meyer delivered.

Story: 4 out of 5
Like all first issues of nearly all comics, this was just the intro of what’s to come. Issue #1 of Blood Hunter just sets us up. We meet Vincent, a Blood Hunter who is given the task of retrieving the only living human remaining on earth in order for the other vampires to perform experiments on it. But this human is nothing more than a baby and Vincent can’t bring himself to leave the child with the cold vampires. It’s an interesting concept. I adore post-apocalyptic stories, and one in which there is only one human left (vampires feed upon synthetic blood) has the potential to be an amazing story. It has me curious enough to give the second issue a shot.

Overall, I enjoyed Blood Hunter. It was an interesting post-apocalyptic tale. I’m looking forward to finding out what happens next.

Have any of you read Blood Hunter? What did you think?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
