Review of ‘Dear Dracula’

In the mood for something lighthearted and sweet, yet still fang-filled, I picked up a copy of Dear Dracula, a vampire comic for children. It was reported a few years back that this cute little comic was to be made into an animated film, however, that has yet to be seen. But in spite of that, we still have a fun comic for kids.

Description:

“A young boy named Sam loves scary movies, especially the ones with Dracula! This year, instead of writing to Santa for Christmas, Sam writes to Dracula, asking the vampire king if he can become a real vampire for Halloween! Sam is in for a surprise as the most famous vampire himself comes to visit!”

Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Vicente Navarrete

Here’s the break down:

Artwork: 4 out of 5
If I had seen this style of artwork in anything other than a children’s comic I wouldn’t like it at all. But it works perfectly for a kid book. It cute, but not too cute, and it’s colorful and fun. An excellent choice for Dear Dracula.

Story: 4 out of 5
I can see tiny horror fans loving this little comic as I am sure there are many children out there who love vampires and would be thrilled to be visited by one. The story is sweet and simple, it may not be very appealing to adults, but it’s excellent for kiddies. It’s a fun tale about meeting the scary Dracula, forming friendships and having adventures.

Overall, I thought it was a sweet comic book for children. I don’t see many adults falling in love with this one since it is totally aimed at very young readers. But if you have children in love with monsters then I definitely recommend it. Or, if you’re just in the mood for a quick and cute read, then pick up a copy of Dear Dracula for yourself.
