Review of Vampries’ Most Wanted: The Top 10 Book of Bloodthirsty Biters, Stake-wielding Slayers, and Other Undead Oddities

This vampire book with what may be the longest title ever is by author Laura L. Enright, and as I’m sure you can guess, Vampires’ Most Wanted: The Top 10 Book of Bloodthirsty Biters, Stake-wielding Slayers, and Other Undead Oddities is a book packed full awesomely awesome vampire lists. There are lists on the top 10 vampire myths, top 10 young adult books, top 10 crypts and castles and on and on. The book does much more than simply list of names and titles, it delves deeply into each one, filling the reader’s mind full of fascinating info on their favorite creatures of the night.

In honor of Vampires’ Most Wanted and due to my love for lists (seriously, I own many of the Listography books) my review will be done list style!

  1. I love that it wasn’t just a boring book of lists and nothing else. Everything listed was followed by a paragraph of well-researched and intriguing information.  The author didn’t just ramble off facts though, it didn’t feel like some boring text book at all, but more like a fun and interesting conversation.
  2. As a vampire folklore junkie I was pleasantly surprised by the author’s list of vampire myths. She definitely did her research on worldwide vampire lore and created a superb list that was bursting full of fascinating information, and most importantly, accurate information.
  3. A wide assortment of films was covered in this book, not just the newest or the most popular. Many movies, old and new, were mentioned. I loved that since it gave readers a new insight into vampire films they may have never heard of before.
  4. The illustrations and photos found throughout the book were fantastic. I really love when a book has pictures scattered throughout.
  5. The author’s choices weren’t the obvious ones, which was great. Take the vampire literature lists for example, of course novels like Dracula and Interview with the Vampire made the list, but so did a few other less obvious books like Kim Newman’s Anno Dracula and Jewelle Gomez’s The Gilda Stories.
  6. The sexy vampire section wasn’t bad, but I could personally think of many vampires sexier than the ones listed. But hey, to each their own.
  7. As for the lovers section – Buffy never loved Spike, Spike even knew that and said so. So while Spike loved Buffy, I personally would have had Angel and Buffy on the list instead since their love was mutual.
  8. There was a fantastic variety of lists, I was expecting nothing more than top movies, top shows and so on, but there were lists on vampiric animals, real blood drinkers, vampire events and much more.
  9. I would have much preferred if the author had listed things off by their actual names instead of creating titles for each. It seemed messy and confusing to me.
  10. It was never slow or tedious. Each thing listed was granted a paragraph or two and that’s it, you weren’t drowning in an overabundance of facts.

And that concludes my list of likes and dislikes. Overall, I loved Vampires’ Most Wanted and highly recommend it to all vampire fans. There’s such a variety of information in there that I guarantee that you will learn something new and fangtastic. You can order a copy of the book HERE.

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  3. I agree about Buffy and Spike. You can always tell which side an overzealous shipper stands on when writing a book by the way they write about Buffy and her vampires.
