The writers of this episode missed a golden opportunity for an in-joke, as pointed out by my lovely better half as we were watching. The guy at the beginning, the one Eichorst hung on the meat hook? He should totally have been wearing a red shirt.
Okay, regarding the attack on the Ancients and the explosion, I’m not certain that it could kill them. The one I’m worried about, though, is Quinlan. Still, as a storyteller, this is how I would have done it, if I’d wanted to make it clear to the audience that his character was killed: I would have had him pick up the briefcase right as Eichorst detonated it. That would have been poetic and tragic. The way it happened, we didn’t SEE anyone die, so I’m not convinced anyone did. At the least I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Quinlan. We’d BETTER not have seen the last of Quinlan! You hear me, Carlton Cuse? Remember the vicious editorial beating I gave John Logan for lying to his fans about the cancellation of PENNY DREADFUL? You don’t want to incur my wrath, boyo! I can be downright harsh!
Speaking of harsh: That scene where Gus had to kill his mother to save Angel. Brutal man. Brutal.
