We now know most of the principal cast for the remake of SALEM’S LOT, which is scheduled to be out in time for Halloween of 2022. We previously reported on the casting of Lewis Pullman as the protagonist. (I won’t say he was cast as “the lead” because to me, and, I expect, to the lot of you as well, the lead character is the head vampire Kurt Barlow.) To Pullman’s name we can add several others: Makenzie Leigh is playing Susan Norton; Bill Camp is playing Matthew Burke; Spencer Treat Clark is playing Mike Ryerson; and Alfre Woodard is portraying Dr. Cody (the character was originally a white male, but there’s no reason it has to be that way). Actor William Sadler has also been cast, but I can’t find any mention of which specific role he will be playing. Could it be Barlow’s Renfield, the henchman Richard Straker? Or could it be Barlow himself?
The Mike Ryerson character, by the way, is the character made so infamous by Geoffrey Lewis in the 1979 miniseries. (That “Look at me!” scene literally gave me trauma.) Spencer Treat Clark has some mighty big boots to fill with that one.
If Sadler isn’t intended to be Barlow, might I make a recommendation? Doug Jones. Put him under that classic blue Nosferatu makeup and let him shine.
SALEM’S LOT will be written and directed by Gary Dauberman.
