Sigourney Weaver on Her New Vampire Role

Sigourney Weaver just completed her work with director Amy Heckerling on a vampire film – that’s right readers, there’s another vampire flick on the way.

“A daughter of a friend of mine says that – ‘Everything sucks these days’ – because there are vampires everywhere on TV and in movies. This one is kind of a goofy comedy about these two nice young vampires who are trying to go straight. I play someone who is absolutely dyed-in-the-wool vampire, I just love what I do, I love killing people and drinking their blood.”

The film, due next year, is called Vamps. It’s a modern-day tale of love and blood-drinking in Manhattan starring Alicia Silverstone (who starred in writer/director Heckerling’s Clueless in 1995) and Krysten Ritter as two sexy undead women who find themselves at a crossroads moment in their immortality. Their elder, meanwhile, is Weaver’s old-school vampire, Ciccerus, a ruthless vamp who sees the human race as nothing but food. The cast also includes Richard Lewis, Justin Kirk, Wallace Shawn, Marilu Henner and Malcolm McDowell.

“My character is very funny but she hasn’t seen the light,” Weaver said. “She’s a creature of the night and she loves her job. It was delicious.”

In another interview Weaver spoke about gore-filled flicks, saying that the main focus of Vamps is to deliver a solid story without a heavy emphasis on gore.

“When I was shooting [Vamps], they were shooting Hostel III on the floor below us,” she says, “and you could hear the screams of the actors. That’s not the kind of movie I’m interesting in seeing. [I prefer] a good monster movie with real depth. Which maybe they are. I haven’t seen them. But I’m not really interested in gore. I am interested in a good yarn with a great monster.”

I am right there with her on that, I mean, I love me some bloody scenes, but they shouldn’t be the focus of a horror movie.

What do you guys think? Will you check Vamps out?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  1. I agree with her, too. Sure, there should be blood-drinking and deaths in vampire movies but torture porn is just… sick crap.

  2. Pingback: vampires
  3. I think I will see it, it sounds good. And I definitely agree with the movies being based on gore are just not my thing. Only on Halloween do i watch movies like that with friends.
