Slender Man Victim Speaks
Just in time for Halloween—which I’m sure is merely a coincidence—teenager Payton Leutner has chosen to speak about the attack wherein she was stabbed 19 times by two supposed friends who wanted to sacrifice her to the Slender Man. No, I don’t blame *her.* But I doubt it is a coincidence that ABC News chose to approach her about the incident at just this time. Sure, the interview with her won’t air until the day *after* Halloween, but still. Either way, whether the timing was orchestrated or not, Ms. Leutner was a victim and should be respected. The news media? I never respected them to begin with.
Concerning the pint-sized psychos who stabbed her, Ms. Leutner said she wasn’t surprised to learn of the motive (to appease Slender Man) “because she [the attacker] believed so hard in this thing that she would do anything for it…” but that it “was a little shocking to me to see that they had this big, huge plan that they had been working on for months.” Leutner says that she still sleeps with a pair of scissors under her pillow “just in case,” which shows as clearly as anything that the scars this young woman carries are not just physical and visible.
