As I continue to wage war against screenwriter John Logan (and by waging war I mean that I’m posting articles criticizing him) for his peremptorily ending his excellent series PENNY DREADFUL and then lying to his fans about it (see those recent articles on this site), I’ve been concurrently searching for something to partially fill the void in my soul left by the series’ departure. (You’re a coldhearted bastard, John Logan! A coldhearted bastard!) Queue STRANGER THINGS from Netflix. Is this what I’ve been looking for, arriving in just the nick of time to soothe my malcontent little spirit? In the words of Bugs Bunny, “Mmm, could be.”
As a child of the 80s I am guaranteed to be drawn to anything touting itself as a “love letter to ’80s supernatural classics that captivated a generation” so it’s a given that I’d be checking out the series. In addition to those “supernatural classics,” though, I was also captivated a whole heckuva lot by slasher films, and I doubt we’re gonna see any characters analogous to Jason or Freddy, here. Even so, the series looks promising. Check out the trailer at the link below (see “source”) and see if you agree.
