Sebastian Roche, the man who once played the angel Balthazar on the hit show “Supernatural,” is trading in his wings and replacing them with vampire slaying weapons. Roche has just signed on for the third season of “The Vampire Diaries” to play a recurring character said to be “a very mysterious man who appears to be hunting vampires, most specifically Klaus.”
The upcoming character was originally named Eric, but his name will be changed to avoid unwanted “True Blood” comparisons since the CW show will also introduce a new character named Bill in season 3. Both Bill, who will be played by former “Heroes” star Jack Coleman, and Roche’s character are expected to appear during the first part of season 3.
Julie Plec recently gushed to EW about the new character saying, “For some reason, Klaus, who shouldn’t be afraid of anybody, seems to be concerned about this person.” She goes on describing, “He is big, and he is bad, but I would dare not say if he is the true Big Bad or not, trademark Joss Whedon.”
Plec then teased fans by adding, “There might be some bigger and badder people coming [later].”
While Plec has left us in the dark, we do have a few guesses on what’s to come, like Bex, who is said to be even more trouble than Katherine. Rebecca, AKA Bex, is a beautiful vampire who was Stefan’s companion back in the early days when he was feasting on human blood. “Pretty Little Liars” star Claire Holt has landed the role of Bex, who will be stirring trouble up in season 3. According to reports we will first see her in flashbacks, but there is no word on when we will meet her in the present. We were told that she has never gotten over Stefan, but don’t worry about Stefan going back to her, Paul Wesley already cleared that up:
“Stefan isn’t thinking about other women in the least bit. He’s completely in love with Elena and he’s doing this whole thing for Elena,” said Wesley.
Season 3 currently sounds like the best season yet! I can’t wait to see the new characters. What about you?
“The Vampire Diaries” will return on Thursday, September 15 at 8/7c on The CW.
