It’s The Vampires Vs. The Werewolves Vs Frankenstein’s Monster in ‘I, Frankenstein’

Aaron Eckhart is returning as a modern-day Frankenstein, named Adam Frankenstein and facing off against an array of supernatural creatures in Lionsgate’s first trailer for “I, Frankenstein.” The fi…

the night desk’s insight:
On the Jan. 24, ‘I, Frankenstein’ is released from the producers of “Underworld” in theatres around the U.S. This is definitely a new version on this very old tale. Aaron Eckhart seems to give a very human element to this monster, leaving us to see a more thoughtful, intellectual side to Dr. Frankenstein’s creation. The vampires in this movie are brilliant, no nonsense, and bad ass. I’ll be checking this one out on the big screen… will you be there?

Coming: Fright Night 2

Let the arguments and debates commence! Sequels always cause both, as do remakes. Sequels to remakes even more-so! The original Fright Night inspired a sequel centered around Charlie Brewster encountering a female vampire. Non-Fiction Spotlight: The Romance of Dracula

The Romance of Dracula by Charles E. Butler is, in his own words, “a personal journey of the Count on celluloid.” I think that is a perfect way to describe this book, which is part film critique, part essay, and part personal reminiscence. Like Mr. Butler, I love the vampire film genre as well as…

A Twist on the Myth

The heart, a drummer to whose beat we are all forced to march.  When the beat stops, so do we stop marching, well, stop everything really.  The importance of the heart is demonstrated time and again in culture and history, often placed aloft upon a pedestal.  With vampires, a stake of wood (or perhaps silver…

Bathory – 2008 film

Bathory weaves a thought-provoking alternate tale of the infamous Countess Báthory Erzsébet. Was she a victim of religious political conspiracy and greed? Whatever you believe, the movie provides potential answers to the stories of legend about the vampire countess. A sub-plot reveals a romantic relationship between the countess and Caravaggio, yes, the famous Baroque painter.…
