The Addams Family Proves Me Wrong

Yep, I admit it. I was wrong. And I couldn’t be happier to be proven wrong.

Last week I complained about the way the suits-in-offices at the studio had betrayed their movie by deciding to release it to livestreaming on the same day that it opened in theaters, and then putting it up against VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE. I predicted it would get obliterated. Yet despite the incredibly stiff competition—VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE topped out over $90 million for the weekend—and despite the suits cutting the legs out from under their film, THE ADDAMS FAMILY 2 *still* managed to bring in an impressive $17 million+. Wowza! The movie cost about $24 million to make, and a movie has to earn 2 ½ times its budget to be considered profitable. The movie is off to a good start, and we don’t even know how much it made via the people who chose to watch it at home. It should end up in the black, which is good news for the franchise.

I didn’t get the chance to see the movie this past weekend. I’ll catch it next weekend. Normie seems to hate it, so that probably means I’ll love it.
