real vampires, vampire games and tv shows, movies or films, and vampire books

Who’s planning to watch THE ALIENIST? It’s set to premiere on TNT on January 22nd of the new year–something to look forward to! The eight-part miniseries is based on the novel of the same name by author Caleb Carr, and stars Luke Evans, who was Bard the Bowman in THE HOBBIT films and Dracula in DRACULA UNTOLD. (He was also Gaston in the live-action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. The guy has versatility, that’s for sure.) I’ve read the book by Carr, and it rocked. The series looks equally promising.

An “alienist” was a psychiatrist, before there existed such a term. The alienist of this story, Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (portrayed by Daniel Bruhl, who was Baron Zemo in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR), teams up with a reporter (played by Evans) to hunt down a serial killer. (Something else that existed before they had a word for it.) There have actually been several attempts to turn Carr’s novel into a movie, going back over 25 years, but they all fell through. That may end up being for the best, as a TV series will allow more time, more “wiggle room,” to properly tell the story and delve into the necessary details. I hope it’s good!
