The Best of the Worst

Here’s a list—somebody’s list—of the “50 Greatest Movie Villains of All Time, Ranked”. You can probably guess number one. It’s easy. Darth Vader. Number two is also a given: the Joker. But Javier Bardem’s character from NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN comes in at number three? Seriously? Ahead of Hannibal Lecter at number four? And the shark from JAWS at number five? Horseshit. Even worse, Pennywise doesn’t show up on the list until number twelve, Jason is ranked number 20, Michael Myers at 25, and Freddy not until 31. And the Predator and the Alien don’t even belong on the list, really, as they aren’t true villains. They are just creatures doing what such creatures do naturally. They aren’t “evil”. And Biff from the BACK TO THE FUTURE movies made the list? What a joke.

First and foremost, though, where on this list is the greatest cinematic villain of them all? The one topping even Darth Vader. He has appeared in more movies, by far, than any of them. He deserves more than any of them to rank on this list, deserves in fact the top position. I am of course speaking of Count Dracula. Any list of villains failing to mention Dracula, much less give him his proper due, is a lame and lousy compilation devoid of credibility.
