THE BRIDES Looking for a New Home

Remember that pilot episode that ABC ordered based on the wives of Dracula, entitled THE BRIDES? Welp, the suits in the offices took a hard pass on it. The Brides may not be undead in the water, though, as there are plans for the series to be shopped around in hopes that some other network or outlet might want it. (*whistle* Hey! Netflix!)

Honestly it would have been a little surprising to me if ABC had decided to run with the show. Network television simply isn’t the place for classic Horror. The last time something like that was tried, with NBC’s DRACULA a few years ago, it didn’t float. It probably wouldn’t have floated this time, either. The normies who watch network television don’t like quality Horror, or anything cerebral, generally speaking. They want singing competitions and reality show flotsam. A show like THE BRIDES would be more successful on one of the cable networks or via streaming. Also it is likely that the show would have had to be heavily sanitized to run on network television. Knowing this, I’m not really disappointed that ABC’s suits didn’t approve the series. It’s likely for the best.

Besides, we’ve got that new Dracula movie in the works to look forward to.
