I had never really checked out manga before but when I heard that one of my all time favorite authors, Sherrilyn Kenyon, had her book Night Pleasures turned into one I absolutely had to check it out. Reading right to left took some getting used to but once I did I was hooked – the art, my fave characters, the humor and Kenyon’s story were kickass in manga form.
For the fans that have read the original book The Dark Hunters manga follows the same story, but obviously a lot of dialogue is cut out since we can see in pictures what was before described in words. While still fantastic the manga is pg-13, not R like the novel. I’m sad to report that the sex scenes have been removed, but with or without them it’s still wonderful in my opinion. One of many great things is it still has the same jokes as the book and actually seeing them is so much better than reading them.
For those that haven’t read the series, don’t worry, you don’t need to read the books to understand the manga since it’s the same story but in manga form (although I highly recommend checking out the Dark Hunters series). Here’s the Dark Hunters Volume 1 description…
In the war against vampires, mankind has only one hope: The Dark-Hunters. Ancient warriors who died of brutal betrayal, the Dark-Hunters have sworn themselves into the service of the goddess Artemis to protect us.
It’s a pact with pretty good perks. Immortality, power, psychic abilities, wealth and a cool wardrobe. But it comes with a few drawbacks: fatal sun poisoning and a new, irreparable dental problem. But aside from the fangs and nocturnal lifestyle, it’s not so bad.
Until Kyrian meets the most frightening thing imaginable. An accountant who’s being hunted by one of the most lethal vampires out there. If Amanda Devereaux goes down, so does he and no offense, he doesn’t want to die (hence the whole immortality thing). And he doesn’t want humanity dead either which is a good thing for us since he and Amanda are all that stands between us and oblivion. Let’s hope they win.
If you’re looking for some great art, a funny story and a quick read you should check it out.
The Dark Hunters Volume 2 will be released March 2, 2010 (Ash is in it! Eeee!)
