For today’s vampire lore we’ll be going back to beautifully dark land of Germany to cover yet another devilish German vampire species, the Dubbelsüger.
This particular type of vampire is found in northern Germany, in the region of Hannover. The Dubbelsüger’s name translates to “double sucker,” and it comes from the belief that a child, once weaned, will become a vampire after death should he or she nurse again.
Now if this vampire does come into being, there are a few things it will do. First off, it will awaken inside its coffin, and then it will eat the fleshy bits of its breasts. Gross, I know. But why on earth would this crazy vampire do such a thing? It is believed that when it does this it draws out the life essence from surviving family members through a kind of sympathetic magic. You know you have Dubbelsüger on your hands when you notice relatives wasting away slowly. If you would like to prevent this from happening what you need to do is place a gold coin between the corpse’s teeth or place a board between the chin and chest, therefore keeping it from eating its chest. Another form of prevention is keeping the burial garments from touching its lips. To keep this vamp from returning, remove the door frame. Say what?! Ok, more specific – when the body was removed from the home after death it passed through the door to get to the funeral home and whatnot. It is believed this undead monster will return through the door it left through after death and therefore removing the doorframe will prevent its return to its one time home.
Now that we have those bases covered, what about killing it? Well this vampire is a little bit different than the other vampires out there. To kill it you need a spade, yea, a gardening spade and you need to use this to slice off the back of the Dubbelsüger’s neck. You will know you hit true when it lets out a bone chilling scream and then dies.

That’s….disgusting.
And this is why I love my German heritage
