The First DRACULA Artwork!

My compatriot Hans de Roos has done it again. This is the guy who brought to us the lost Icelandic translation (in actuality an entirely different version) of Bram Stoker’s DRACULA, aka MAKT MYRKRANNA or POWERS OF DARKNESS, the guy who discovered the actual geographic location of Castle Dracula (the location of the one in the novel, not the real-world castle at Poenari in Romania). And now he has discovered the very first artwork ever created for a DRACULA novel! He’s compiling the artwork into a book, and you can own one of your very own by clicking here and putting in your order! I’ve got mine in already. (That’s what she said…er, he said!)

Take it away, Hans!

“The first book contains a handpicked collection of the first Dracula illustrations ever, taken from the Swedish Dagen serialization (1899-1900). In 2017, I have obtained high-resolution scans of these pen drawings, and over the course of the years painstakingly edited them, to restore the original vigour and flow of the linework in high resolution. Moreover, I have colorized them, adding vivacity, brilliance and atmosphere. Fundamentally, the Swedish drawings deserve just as much attention as the Icelandic translation.. or as Murnau’s Nosferatu (1922), or Dracula with Bela Lugosi (1931)… it is the very first visualization of the Dracula story…Nothing can beat that!! If the crowdfunding target of 100 contributions is reached, the book will have a colorful, laminated hardcover binding (sewn, not glued), and 68 pages of heavy quality coated paper: 4 pages frontmatter (title, etc.), 11 pages for an essay I wrote about these drawings, 51 pages of high-end color reproductions with captions explaining the scenes, plus 2 pages endmatter. The book will have A4 size with landscape (horizontal) orientation. The production will be financed by crowdfunding: our target is 100 contributions of 25 Euros or 30 USD each.  Until now, 34 payments have come in via Facebook, while 23 books have been ordered via Kickstarter. Each contributor will receive one copy of the book as a premium, which corresponds to book value of 18 Euros (22 USD), plus 7 Euros (8 USD) for international shipping with tracking function. The campaign is running on this Website, on Facebook, on Indiegogo and on Kickstarter simultaneously: on Kickstarter till August 6, on Indiegogo till August 16. Then the book will be printed with the available funds, perhaps with a less expensive cover.”

There is also a video promo. Check it out here. The artwork is simply gorgeous, and the book will be as well. Every self-respecting DRACULA mark should have a copy on his bookshelf. Get yours now!
