The Haunting of Collinwood

The sprawling mansion residence of the Collins family in the classic television series DARK SHADOWS was in reality a series of soundstage constructions, with the exterior shots, featured prominently at the opening of every episode, filmed at Seaview Terrace, aka the Carey Mansion, aka Burnham-by-the-Sea, in Newport, Rhode Island. The house—it seems the word “house” is too small to adequately describe the place, but that’s what it is, a private residence, although it formerly served as a boarding school and college—has a long history of hauntings—and that was *before* some “warlock” allegedly opened a portal to hell there!

On Halloween night, a special two-hour edition of the series GHOST NATION entitled REUNION IN HELL will be airing on the Travel Channel. The show will chronicle the investigation at Seaview Terrace by the show’s team of paranormal investigators Jason Hawes, Steve Gonsalves, and Dave Tango, along with Amy Bruni and Adam Berry of another Travel Channel series, KINDRED SPIRITS. There’s all kinds of spooky cool paranormal stuff airing on the Travel Channel this month, more than just the standard ghost-hunting shows that, quite frankly, tend to kind of bore me—although that’s unfortunately the bulk of it. I’m sure the investigation at Seaview terrace will be like all the others, but because of the location, and the connection to DARK SHADOWS, I’ll be sure to set my DVR.
