Just last week I reported on the efforts being made by researchers to locate the reported victims of the Highgate Vampire of London, back in the 1970s, and did my part to help spread the word. It seems that some individuals, most notably self-professing vampire hunter Sean Manchester, who claims to have been the one to finally stake the vampire haunting Highgate Cemetery, have taken exception to this search. Harsh words are being flung around by “friends” of Manchester’s, who may or may not be alternate profiles and aliases of Manchester himself. One thing that is obvious is that Manchester, or people associated with him, don’t want anyone talking to the victims. Why?
I don’t have a dog in this fight. I’m just an entertainer-cum-journalist, in that order, emphasis on the entertainer part. I report on news and ephemera of interest to vampire aficionados. If something makes headlines concerning vampires, I cover it here. As an outsider, then, perhaps my two cents might fall on ears more receptive; that is to say, that comments offered from an uninvolved third party might be received more favorably than those originating from any of the principal players? I don’t know. I will offer them anyway. To Mr. Manchester, I would suggest a more open disclosure, or at least less defensiveness, as obfuscation and combativeness only serve to make him look guilty and lend credence to his detractors. We here at vampires.com would love for the Highgate Vampire story to be true and would be glad to hear Mr. Manchester’s side of that story, should he be interested in an interview.
