THE LOST BOYS and the Pretty Woman

Jason Patric (Michael) and Kiefer Sutherland (David) became bosom buddies on the set of THE LOST BOYS. Fast forward three years to when Kiefer hooked up with his costar from FLATLINERS (the original, obviously) Julia Roberts. Julia was hotter than hot at the time thanks to the success of PRETTY WOMAN (also released in 1990). I sure had a crush on her back then. And I remember reading all about the brouhaha when Roberts, who was engaged to Kiefer, like, pert-nair in her wedding gown already, up and ran out on him—with Jason Patric. Major drah-ma.

I was working my first job as a grocery store bagboy. During my lunchbreaks I’d take a tabloid from one of the checkout aisles and sit and read it in the breakroom. I preferred the ridiculous WEEKLY WORLD NEWS but if I finished with one before the next week’s installment arrived on Monday I’d grab a copy of the NATIONAL ENQUIRER. (I never bought any of them. I’d return them to the checkout lane when I came back from lunch.) I was well read-up on contemporary scandals like Roseanne marrying Tom Arnold and the Kiefer-Julia-Patric love triangle.

Patric and Sutherland are friends again, and Julia Roberts seems to have outgrown her youthful flakiness in terms of her romantic life. Now that David and Michael are on speaking terms again, any chance we can get them together for a sequel to THE LOST BOYS? Kiefer couldn’t play the same character, obviously, since David wouldn’t have aged, but Jason could still play Michael. Maybe Kiefer could be like a relative of David’s or something. Or heck, they could just de-age him with CGI.
