We’re getting closer to the end of the season, and while receiving the news that THE STRAIN would return for a fourth and final season next year goes a long way towards alleviating some of the bittersweet sting associated with watching that upcoming season finale—I have a feeling it’s gonna be EPIC!—I still mourn the brevity of this third season, three episodes shorter than the previous two and far shorter than the 22-week run of your normal network TV series season. There’s still so much story left to tell. I wonder how they’re going to fit it all in. We have three more episodes this year, then however many they decide to go with for the next. It’s not enough, seems like. But then I wouldn’t mind seeing THE STRAIN go all DARK SHADOWS on us, veering far and wide from its original premise, sending its characters back in time or forward into the future. Stuff like that. Imagine Eph or Setrakian or Fet traveling back in time to ancient Egypt, to try to kill the Master; or Quinlan sent forward into a future in which the Strigoi have won and the world is a wasteland reminiscent of I AM LEGEND. So many possibilities!
Still, I’ll take what I can get, and what we get is three more episodes this season and one more season next year. Here’s a preview of this coming Sunday’s episode, which is episode number eight, in case you haven’t been paying attention. It looks fantastic, but the written promo sounds ominous. “…a last minute betrayal proves deadly.” Are they planning to kill off another character?
