The Supreme Court Discusses Twilight… seriously

The Twilight Saga has gotten so big that even our government officials are talking about it – it is a sad time to be an American. Apparently, the folks in the US of A care so much about Twilight that they feel it necessary to know one’s opinion on it before she takes over the highest court in the US.

So here’s what happened, during her Supreme Court confirmation hearing on Wednesday, Solicitor General Elena Kagan was jokingly asked by Senator Amy Klobuchar, Democrat of Minnesota, for her thoughts on the biggest issue in American history – Jacob vs. Edward.

Making note of the “incredibly grueling day” Elena Kagan had on Tuesday, Klobuchar remarked, “I guess it means you missed the midnight debut of the third Twilight movie last night.” After some laughter, she added: “We did not miss it in our household, and it culminated in three 15-year-old girls sleeping over at 3 a.m.”

Ms. Kagan admitted that she was not able to see Eclipse, but Ms. Klobuchar nonetheless continued, “I keep wanting to ask you about the famous case of Edward versus Jacob or the vampire versus the werewolf.”

“I wish you wouldn’t,” Ms. Kagan said.

“I know you can’t comment on future cases,” Klobuchar said. “So I’ll leave that alone.”

Really!? Ok, there’s a part of me, deep DEEP inside that is giggling about this – “hehe government officials are chatting about Twilight hehe.” But there’s a much bigger part that’s like, “What-the-fuck!”  Apparently Minnesota’s senator has the mindset of a 10-year-old girl… poor Minnesota.

What do you guys think? Do you think it’s just some harmless girl talk? Or does it piss you off that your government is spending it’s time chatting about Edward and Jacob? Personally, I think it’s ridiculous, but it’s not really a huge deal. It’s not like they were screaming “OMG I LUUUURVE EDWARD! HE’S SOOOOOOOOO HAWT!” No harm done – however, I’m not a huge Twilight fan, so Senator Amy Klobuchar looses some respect points for this.

  5. This is ridiculous. Poor Minnesota, their senator is a twilight fan. I feel truly bad for them.
