I went and saw VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE for the second time this past weekend. Enjoyed it just as much the second go-round. Spotted a couple of little things that I missed during my first viewing. Stan Lee’s cameo, for instance. (Did you catch it? He’s on the front page of the newspaper in the convenience store.) As an extra treat, the showing I attended had new trailers. The first time I got to see trailers for SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, DUNE, and HALLOWEEN KILLS. During my most recent visit to the theater, I also got to see, once more, the trailer for MORBIUS, the movie that doesn’t actually exist.
It’s a darn spiffy trailer. They really put some work into it. If only they’d bothered to film the rest of the movie. I suspect it was all done digitally, though. I mean, Kubrick faked the moon landing; it’d be easy enough to create a trailer for a movie that doesn’t exist just using CGI. Jared Leto probably just stood in front of a green screen for a couple of minutes and the techies did the rest.
I wonder if Sony is starting to sweat just yet. I mean, the proposed date for the release of MORBIUS is approaching. Sure they’re gonna delay it again, and come up with some excuse for doing so. But how long can they go on kicking the can down the street before people get wise? Hey, Sony, do you think you might should actually start work on an actual film? I mean, you’re gonna have to offer one up eventually; either that or ‘fess-up that you never had any intention of making a MORBIUS movie and have just been stringing us along all this time.
The current release date for MORBIUS, until they change it again, is January 28, 2022.
