THE WALKING DEAD Afraid of the ARMY OF THE DEAD?

Zack Snyder’s forthcoming heist movie—with zombies—is going to be hitting Netflix sometime next year, and Snyder assures fans that his zombies will be almost all the result of practical FX! “90% of our zombies are completely practical. The zombie war, the action sequences and the fighting… [we] worked hard to create some insane zombie mayhem. The thing about the movie that I think will be really exciting for people is the tone. That kind of tone where the movie has fun but doesn’t make fun. I really wanted to make a no holds barred, zombie genre insanity.”

So do the producers of THE WALKING DEAD, a series already on life-support (ironically) worry that this new, fresh take on the genre will further sap their viewers and steal their heat? No. That ship is already as good as sunk. They should be worried about the dozen or so spinoffs they have planned, though, especially since it looks like ARMY OF THE DEAD is being primed as a franchise, with both a prequel and an animated series planned. This bodes well for ARMY OF THE DEAD, as somebody somewhere must really have liked what he or she had seen. It doesn’t bode so well for all the other overplayed and played-out zombie series out there.
