THE WALKING DEAD: Carl May Not Be Dead After All?

If this is true, as reports suggest, it’s one of the most egregious cases of backpedaling I’ve seen in a long time, outside of politics. What a cop out. Come on, people, you’re better than that, aren’t you? You made the move, now you’ve got to stick with it. You can’t ret-con it, even if cast members are complaining and longtime fans are bitching and ratings are down. You made the move to kill the kid off. You cannot “undo” it without sacrificing every ounce of your credibility.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Carl revealed that he was bitten by a zombie before THE WALKING DEAD took its mid-season break. There’s no cure for that. There’s no way to justify the character NOT dying. Was it a mistake? Probably, yes, based on all that aforementioned complaining and bitching and declining ratings. But they did it. Now they have to stick with it. If they create some cheap, fabricated, disingenuous way to keep the character around, it will only further alienate the casual fans and might just drive the longtime viewers away in the process.

Okay, it was the creator of the comics, Robert Kirkman, and not the showrunners who said this, and it could just be a tease. Let us hope so.
