THE WALKING DEAD In Decline?

Technically, yes. It is. Ratings are down significantly this season. Even so, the series has seen ratings dip before, only for them to rebound. And the show has already been renewed for another season, its ninth, and is getting a new showrunner in Angela Kang, who has worked as a writer and a co-executive producer on the series for the past several years. Charlie Collier, president of AMC Studios, said: “This is an enormously important day for the entire [series] television universe…We are proud to acknowledge Angela’s significant contribution to the series and to set a clear path forward for a ninth season under her direction.” Typical shmoozy spin, there.

Far more interesting to me is the grousing being done by series star Norman Reedus, arguably the show’s most prominent figure. Reedus isn’t cool with them killing off longtime character Carl Grimes. This is what Reedus told ENETRTAINMENT WEEKLY recently: “The people that started this show, to me, are the heart of the show. When you lose those key members, it’s such a big blow to the show, and to the fans, and to us that are there…Who’s left? There’s only a few of us left out of all those people. If you wanted to turn it into a totally different show, you get rid of those people. But if you want to hold on to what made the show special, you’ve got to be very careful what you do with those people.” Do fans feel the same way? is that why the ratings are dropping, even as the series plows ahead?

  1. My husband and I were so upset when Neegan came in at the beginning of the season and killed Greg who had been on the show from the beginning! We’re looking for Rick to man up and get rid of him, or we just refuse to watch anymore. We’re losing interest. Sorry!
