Thoughts on the new PENNY DREADFUL series

Given that I made headlines, no exaggeration, by giving John Logan hell after he prematurely pulled the plug on the beloved TV series a couple’s three year back, and then lied about his decision to do so, and got caught in his lie, I reckon I should probably offer my thoughts on the news that there is going to be a new PENNY DREADFUL series coming from Logan and Showtime. I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. I vacillate between disgust, mistrust, and elation.

The new series, to be entitled PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS, appears to have infirm links to the original series, if there are any links at all, of which I am skeptical. I suspect this may just be an attempt at cashing-in on the name recognition of the original series, with the two actually having nothing to do with each other. If that’s the case, shame on Logan and Showtime for running a con. Also, the new series won’t work without some connection. The Monster would still be alive and well in the 1930s, which is when the new series will be set, as would Lily, Dracula, and others. There must be SOME connections to make the new show fly.

If it DOES fly, though, don’t trust it to last, even if the ratings are good. John Logan has proven he is willing to end a project on a whim. He is not trustworthy, and fans will not forget the way he screwed them over the last time. Will this fact doom the new show in the ratings?

As to why Logan is returning to the world of PENNY DREADFUL at all? Showtime has some big holes in its schedule starting next season, and money talks.
