Totally Awesome Vampire Costumes!

blackwidowHalloween month has started! Wooooo! Yup, Halloween month, no way are we having only one day for it on this site. And what shall we discuss in our first Halloween post? Costumes of course. Thanks to the popularity of vampires this year, vampire costumes are expected to be the big seller this season, along with Michael Jackson costumes, but that’s besides the point… unless you were to be super trendy and went as a Michael Jackson vampire! I’m such a genius. Obvious brilliance aside, I’ll cover some great sites for vampire costumes and some ways to make your own costumes in this lame economy.

First off, you need to decide what kind of vampire you want to be. Do you want to be the movie classic vamp with slicked back hair, plastic fangs and big cloak? Do you want to be the sex kitten vampire with the corset and killer heels? Do you want to be like Edward and the gang in the Twilight books? Do you want to be the scary bloodied savage vampire? Personally I go with the cloaked vampire, just because it gives me an excuse to wear a cloak and who doesn’t like wearing a big hooded cloak.

Lets go with the classic vampire costume first. For this you need black clothes, a hooded cape and fangs and if you like you can add in some fun colored contacts (the contacts work with any costume). The black clothes can be anything you want them to be; formal clothes, normal everyday clothes…etc. The hooded cape can be easily bought at any Halloween store or website. They sell out VERY fast so get them soon. They tend to be pretty pricey and often cheaply made, so if you want to save a buck you can make your own. If you check out the bottom of this post, you’ll see I  posted picture on how to make a cloak. You will need to have some sewing skills to make your own though. The good thing about making your own is you can choose any kind of fabric you want and fabric stores have a HUGE collection to choose from.

Next up is fangs! You can buy plastic fangs, they are super cheap (I saw a bag of them at Target for a couple dollars) and fit in and out of your mouth easily enough. The downside of these fangs is they make you a little drool-y and it’s hard to talk in them, but they get the look you want. You can also get two small fangs that slide right onto your teeth. Those work well for some, not so much for others. Test a few out beforehand. Some people even go so far as to get fangs specially fitted for their teeth, those fangs rock but can be quite pricey.

Next, sexy vamp babe. This costume is easy. Get fangs like above and get a sexy costume. You don’t need to have a specially designed vampire costume from a store, you can pick your own sexy items and mix them. Corset and heels are all ya need. But if you do want a premade sexy costume like the one showed in the thumbnail (which I sooooo want) you can head over to this site. I LOVE this website, if you look at the header you will see loads and loads of awesome sexy SEXY costumes. You can also find these costumes at some Halloween stores and even some adult shops.

Twilight vampires! This costume is super easy. All you need to do is get fangs, make your skin glitter and if you can, get colored contacts. We already covered fangs. But for the glittery skin you have a few options. You don’t need to buy overpriced body glitter from a Halloween store. You can go to the health and beauty section of a store and check out the body wash and lotion section. All year round you can find body wash or lotion that has glitter in it. On my most recent trip to the store I saw this Nivea Touch Of Sparkle Cream Oil Body Wash. It wasn’t in the costume section, it was right there with the other body wash. I saw similar products in the lotion section as well. The good thing about these products vs. body glitter is that they are great for your skin, they wont dry out or irritate your skin like some body glitters do, since these are made by big skin care companies.

Finally we have the gory savage vampire. For this costume, just head to Goodwill or raid your closet or old undesirable clothes and rip them to shreds, cover them in fake blood, put on some fangs, messy up your hair and you are set. Simple. For a fake blood recipe you can check out the recipes image I posted at the bottom.

And there you have it, some fun and awesome vampire costumes. Here are some great Halloween websites worth checking out.

3 Wishes (which I already mentioned)
Buy Costumes
Halloween Express
Costume Super Center

…and many many more. But those are some big ones.

When buying costumes from websites ORDER WEEKS IN ADVANCE! Those sites are crazy busy this time of year and if you wait until the last minute you wont get your costume on time.

And on that final note I end this vampire costume post. I hope it was helpful. Check out the pictures below for directions on how to make a hooded cloak and how to make fake blood.
