True Blood Casts Buffy Villain as Series Regular

Season 6 of True Blood is a long long ways away, it’s not until next summer that we’ll be seeing the show again, but in spite of that, casting has already begun! Golden Globe-winning actor Rutger Hauer has been signed on to join the cast for its upcoming Alan Ball-free season!

The Dutch actor’s extensive credits include a couple vampire films, so the undead are nothing new to him. He was the villain in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the lame movie, not the awesome show), he was Abraham Van Helsing in the recent Dracula 3D film, and he was Dracula in Dracula III: Legacy. As for famous non-vampiric roles, he was in Blade Runner and Batman Begins. So Hauer is definitely a vet in the acting world.

But you don’t care about that, do you? You want to know about who he will be playing in True Blood! Well, while details about Hauer’s character are mostly hush hush, it has been reported that Hauer will play Macklyn, someone who has a deep and dark connection to Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and her brother, Jason (Ryan Kwanten).

So far that’s all we’ve got on this character. From what I gather Macklyn isn’t even in the books (not that the show follows them anyway). We don’t even know what kind of beastie he is (I’m guessing vampire). I guess we will just wait and see.

True Blood’s fifth season – which was Alan Ball’s final as showrunner (Yay!) – saw Sookie and Jason on a quest to find out who really killed their parents. A vampire named Warlow has been found out as the culprit. We’ll find out what happens next when Season 6 arrives. Maybe this Warlow vamp and Macklyn both have something to do with the Stackhouse deaths.

What do you think?

  6. He also played Kurt Barlow, the head vampire in the 2004 adaptation of Salem’s Lot. He’s pretty good at playing vamps.
