True Blood Cookbook in the Making!

When you think True Blood you don’t really imagine food (personally I think of sexy naked men), I mean, most of the eating we see on the show involves fangs and mass quantities of blood. But that hasn’t stopped JoAnn Mathias, Melissa Lowery and Elizabeth Henderson (the latter two created the widely popular true-blood.net True Blood fan site) from creating the unofficial Sookie Stackhouse cookbook. Thanks to them you will have some tasty True Blood inspired treats to chow on while you re-watch every season of the show while waiting for Season 5!

With the upcoming cookbook True Blood fans can bring a taste of their favorite characters into their kitchens with a wide variety of recipes such as “Sookie’s steamy crawfish étouffée,” “Jason’s bourbon smashed potatoes” and “Bill’s bite-me biscuits.” But that’s not all, there are many more tasty treats!

Some of the other recipes include “Bubba’s hunk-of-burning-love fried potatoes” and “Miss Jeanette’s wild-eyed zombie shots.” And of course we need dessert too! A recipe for deep fried Oreos inspired by Merlotte’s feisty cook Lafayette is also included. Just writing this is making me hungry…

Anyway, while it is a cookbook, it actually offers fans more than just delicious recipes. The authors have also included some character gossip, quotes from the show and tips and trivia on Southern food.

Now, before you get too excited about the True Blood inspired cookbook, it isn’t being released until spring 2012. That’s a very long wait.

While I think the food sounds great I’m not exactly impressed by the idea of yet another cookbook inspired by a show or movie. There are a lot of them. However, the fact that the authors are including those extras earns the book some points. If the cookbook is well made, has some quality trivia and such like it claims and awesome recipes too then I’ll consider picking this one up.

What do you guys think? Is the Sookie Cookbook a good idea or a bad one?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  7. If there is an interesting link between each recipes and vampire books/movies, I think this could be en interesting idea. I ownat least three vampire cookboook / or so called ones :

    – 30 recipes to seduce a vampire (I’m not sure it exists outside France)
    – When vampires have fangs (in french : having teet / fangs = starving)
    – The dracula cookbook of blood, an american book with plenty of recipes based on… blood
    – a book of hungarian cooking (not directly related to vampire stuff, bu not that far)

The second one is very un-interesting. There is no interesting links between vampires and the recipes, other than color (red, mostly). The first one is to my mind the best one : recipes are choson for their appearance on vampire movies / books, or for being part of national recipes in countries that are related to vampires (ireland, romania, hungary, …). To this date, it’s the most successfull I’ve found.

If someone here knows of other good vampire cookbook, I’m interested.
