‘True Blood’ is Nominated for a GLAAD Award

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation just released the nominations for its 22nd annual GLAAD Media Awards Thursday (January 20). Television shows such as “Glee” and “Pretty Little Liars” are in the running to win, as are films like “Burlesque” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” But most importantly, one of our favorites vampire shows, “True Blood,” has also been nominated! Go True Blood!

The GLAAD awards, which honors “outstanding images of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community” in the world of media, will be celebrated at three ceremonies — in New York on March 19, in Los Angeles on April 16 and in San Francisco on May 14.

“This year’s nominees represent some of the images and stories at the root of the growing acceptance of our community and support for our equality,” GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios said. “They also have created a benchmark for inclusion of our community that other media outlets should look to. As GLAAD celebrates 25 years of working with the media, we are proud to recognize this year’s nominees and we challenge the industry to share more stories that reflect the diversity of our community and the challenges that gay and transgender people face.”

It’s no secret that I hated season three of “True Blood,” but the sweet (if not sometimes dark) relationship between Lafayette and Jesus Velasquez was one of the few things I loved this past season. A gay relationship shown in a positive and romantic light is something more shows need and “True Blood” gets major props for doing it and doing it well.

Who would you guys like to see win? I’m rooting for True Blood of course, as well as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World because it’s definitely one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. Also, not ashamed to admit it, but Project Runway is totally a guilty pleasure of mine, so I’d like to see it win as well.
