TV Review: NOS4A2 Season Two Episode Three: THE NIGHT ROAD

I knew they were going to have a hard time topping last week’s episode—and they didn’t. But that’s not to say it wasn’t another strong episode in its own right. Something that struck me watching this week’s installment was that Vic is, in her own way, something of a vampire, too. She’s so damaged. She doesn’t siphon energy or lifeforce or whatever from other people so she isn’t a true vampire, as the parasitic nature is intrinsic to being a vampire, but she’s just as much in need of crutches, metaphorically speaking. She uses other people—her mother, her child, her boyfriend—to compensate for what she’s lacking inside, and when deprived of them, she turns to booze. It takes more of a toll on her than it does on others, so in the respect she isn’t at all like Charley.

Other thoughts this week: Pint-sized vampire Millie Manx is becoming a much more interesting character to me. I suspect we’re going to see her playing a bigger part in upcoming episodes, as she regains her memory of what she did to her mother, which she seems to have lost. And did you all catch Tom Savini’s cameo? (I’m going to assume you all know who Tom Savini is.)

Lastly, I love it when the Wraith runs on its own, like Christine. Considering that Joe Hill is Stephen King’s son and all, and in the novel NOS4A2 Hill referenced several of his father’s works, thus implying that they might exist in the same universe, do you suppose it’s possible that the Wraith and Christine are related?
