Welp, the ratings (for the January 28th episode of THE PASSAGE) dropped again. Just a tenth of a percent, but that still ain’t good. What does it mean, in terms of the series getting renewed or cancelled? Hell, who knows. If I had to guess, I’d say that we’re probably safe from Fox cancelling the show mid-run at this point, but we probably won’t be getting a second season. Both of these are subject to change, though, and without much notice. THE PASSAGE is perched upon a tightrope. Meanwhile, THE BACHELOR and WILL AND GRACE PART 97 will be on the air until sometime in the next century. *sigh* There’s no accounting for taste.
I didn’t want to fall in love with this series, knowing how infirm is its future, but I have. It’s simply a great show. I love the novel way it is examining some of the old vampire tropes. I’ve never seen the vampiric ability of mind-control rendered so believably or effectively—the vampires get first into people’s dreams, manipulating them before they even realize they’re being manipulated.
Aside from the two leads, my favorite character by far is Shauna, whose backstory we got to see this week. Big Evil Fanning is starting to grow on me, too. He’s more of a slick used car salesman of a supervillain instead of a Hannibal Lecter, but it’s working.
Personally, I can’t wait for the vampires to take over.
