Here in the states the most popular vampire shows are The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Being Human and so on, but over in Israel they have Split, a vampire drama that hit a record 7 million viewers in Israel alone. While the show was intended for Israeli audiences, it became a huge hit in over 34 countries shortly after its debut. Viewers in countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Russia are all on board and now, so are the Americans.
Split follows an introverted 15-year-old girl named Ella whose identity as half-vampire, half-human is revealed to her by a mysterious male classmate, Leo, a newcomer who turns out to be a couple hundred years her senior. After Ella learns her true identity, she is drawn into an ancient conflict between humans and vampires and eventually discovers she was born to put an end to the war. Along the way, Ella has to face a tough decision – give in to her love for Leo the vampire or entertain her growing feelings towards Omer the human.
It sounds fantastic right? Oh, but it gets better! Instead of doing what every other show does by having modern vampires, Split mixes some folklore into their tale.
According to their wiki page, Split’s vampire weaknesses include:
Silver Daggers – A silver dagger to the heart causes instant death to vampires.
Garlic – Suffocates vampires
Rice – Throwing rice at a vampire forces them to stop and count each grain in one breath.
Sea salt – Sea salt burns vampire’s skin.
Mirrors – If a vampire were to look into a mirror, their soul would be imprisoned in it. Breaking the mirror causes the vampire’s soul to “break”, killing the vampire.
Heart break – If vampires have their heart broken due to love, they fade and die.
Water – Water weakens vampires, but does not hurt them.
If you’re a fan of vampire folklore then many of those will sound familiar to you, particularly the rice thing, which was in fact a method people once used to ward off vampires. Kick ass! I dig the show already.
Now, you may think that the show being is another language is a bit of a problem. Worry not! There’s a girl over on Youtube that has created a Split channel and has posted episodes with English subtitles. Woot!
Check out the Split promo:
So what do you guys think? Will you give the show a shot or will you pass? According to my roommate (who’s the one that told me about the show) Split is ridiculously addictive, so I’m thinking I’ll check out a few episodes myself.

What I really want to know is–HOW CAN WE SEE IT? Been looking for a source of this series for well over a year!
If you read the bottom half I posted a link to a Split youtube page. There is a girl that has put up all of season one with English subs. She is still working on season two though. :)
I just finished episode 5 and it is addictive to watch. Maybe even more addictive then the vampire diaries. I am sure it will be coming to dvd or tv for us English speaking people sometime. Kudos to the girl giving us the subtitled episodes.
Does somebody know whether “Split” also appeared in book form?
Thank you so much in anticipation !!!
