‘Underworld 4’ Finally Has an Official Title and Part of Cast

There has been a ridiculously small amount of news on the fourth Underworld film, but at long last Sony Screen Gems has given us a little sometime – an official title. Underworld 4 was previously bearing a tentative title of Underworld 4: New Dawn, but film is now officially called Underworld: Awakening. Well, that’s one step in a positive direction.

A follow-up to 2006’s Underworld: Evolution, the movie will follow Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she escapes imprisonment. After being held in a coma-like state for fifteen years, she learns that she has a fourteen-year-old vampire/lycan hybrid daughter named Nissa. Once they are reunited, the twosome fight to stop BioCom from creating super lycans that will destroy them all.

They have yet to reveal the actress who will play Nissa, but they have shared one character that will team up with the daughter/mother duo in the new flick, and the actor playing him. Michael Ealy (Seven Pounds, Takers, The Good Wife) has been set to play the role of a police detective who will help Selene and Nissa in their quest to bring BioCom down.

Other than Michael, two other actors have been signed onto the film – India Eisley (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) as a character named Eve and Kris Holden-Ried (Lost Girl, The Tudors) as Quint. Sadly, it’s still unknown as to what roles those characters have in the story. But mystery aside, I am BEYOND happy that Kris Holden-Ried is in it because I adore him, he is in two of my all-time favorite shows (I highly suggest Lost Girl, no vamps, but lots of magical succubus goodness)!

At the helm of Underworld: Awakening is directing team Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein, as for the script, it was written by J. Michael Straczynski and John Hlavin.

Underworld: Awakening is set to hit theaters January 20, 2012.

Who here is excited about the upcoming film? What do you think of the storyline? Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the whole coma baby thing.

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  1. We would’ve loved to have posted more about Underworld 4 along the way but Sony kept sending us threats to remove our posts.

I won’t be supporting the film personally.

    1. Here’s hoping they don’t send anymore threats, that would be ridiculous. You’d think they’d want free publicity.

  4. Yeah I’m definitely not loving that storyline either seems like it will leave too many unanswered questions and WTF happened to Micheal I imagine they will just kill him off like assholes and the daughter being a hybrid makes no sense either and btw there was one vamp in lost girl that fat guy with the beard who died like right away lol

  8. I see a lot of potential in what very little we’ve heard about this film’s story. Keep in mind what they’ve revealed just isn’t much. My own feeling is that UNDERWORLD is curiously compelling mostly due to its visual style, a few really neat ideas and some extremely fine performances. Expecting too much from the series would almost certainly be a mistake. So would be dismissing it sight unseen.

  10. Not going to see it, not supporting it either, especially since the posts that had to be modified were mine, and I was told not to post anything else about their shitty little nine millionth sequel.
