“Unprecedented” Vampire Murder
Iana Kasian, a 30-year-old model born in Ukraine, was murdered by her boyfriend, comic book creator and movie director Blake Leibel, in Los Angeles. There’s nothing really that unusual about the case, on the surface. Tragic, yes, but sadly commonplace. The fact is, women are murdered by their boyfriends/husbands all the time. What sets this one apart, and garners mention here, is the depravity to which the murderer stooped, the gruesome facts of the crime that had an official at the coroner’s office saying of the offense: “I doubt hardly any forensic pathologists in this country or abroad have even seen this, outside of, perhaps, wartime.”
The sicko went all Jack the Ripper on the woman, who was the mother of his child. The woman’s “entire scalp was traumatically absent and was not found, was not present with the body. Her skull had been stripped down to the surface of the bone [with] no scalp present except for little bits in the back of the neck…portions of the right side of her face were torn away including the right ear and part of the posterior face on the right side, all the way down the jawline.” There were bite marks on the body, and the victim died of exsanguination–she was drained of her blood. Most horrifying of all, the victim “lived for at least eight hours approximately after receiving the scalp injury…” In other words, the woman was tortured to death.
Ironically, Leibel served as director of a low-budget 2008 movie titled BALD.
