Emma Roberts of SCREAM and AMERICAN HORROR STORY fame (and beating up her fiancée Evan Peters infamy—although in fairness it does seem that he was throwing some hands in her direction, too) will be producing a vampire-themed series for Netflix entitled FIRST KILL, which is based on a Young Adult story by writer Victoria “V.E.” Schwab, who created the series and will serve as executive producer. A “season” of eight episodes have been ordered.
“Young Adult”? Uh-oh. I smell glitter. Says the pitch: “When it’s time for teenage vampire Juliette to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope. But much to Juliette’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter, from a family of celebrated slayers. Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for.” Oh, okay. So it’s gonna be a LESBIAN teenybopper vampire melodrama. The gay angle isn’t enough to make it stand out for me, unfortunately. I do believe I’ll be skipping this one. Shudder’s BOYS FROM COUNTY HELL sounds more promising. The Horror/Comedy movie “follows Eugene Moffat, who spends his days drinking pints with his friends and pranking tourists at the grave site of Abhartach—a legendary Irish vampire who may have inspired Stoker’s infamous Dracula. Sinister events unfold when Eugene and his father’s construction crew knock over Abhartach’s supposed resting place and they are attacked by an infected workmate.” It’s about Abhartach, the vampire dwarf? And it’s a foreign flick? Yeah, I’ll check it out, first chance I get.
