‘Vampire Circus’ Soon on Blu-ray and DVD!

Hammer is legendary for it’s classic vampire films and I know that there are plenty of Hammer fans on this site, so I am happy to report that their flick, Vampire Circus, is coming to blu-ray and it’s packed full of extra features. Woot!

A little girl is brutally slain by a vampire in a tiny 19th century Austrian village. Seeking revenge, the townspeople invade the foreboding castle of Count Mitterhaus and kill him for the crime. As the Count dies, he curses the villagers and vows that their children will all die so that he may someday return to life. Fifteen years later, as the village is ravaged by the plague, a traveling circus comes to town and distracts the villagers from their current hardships. Little do they know that their troubles are only beginning! The circus is actually a troupe of shape-shifting vampires and, as the local children start disappearing, they realize the prophecy of the long dead Count is coming true.

Synapse Films is proud to present VAMPIRE CIRCUS, now available for the first time on home video in glorious 1080p high-definition and loaded with amazing extras you can really sink your teeth into!

Special Features Include:

  • THE BLOODIEST SHOW ON EARTH: Making Vampire Circus – An all-new documentary featuring interviews with writer/director Joe Dante, Hammer documentarian Ted Newsom, Video Watchdog editor/author Tim Lucas, author/film historian Philip Nutman, and actor David Prowse.
  • GALLERY OF GROTESQUERIES: A Brief History of Circus Horrors – A retrospective on circus/carnival themed horror productions.

This is definitely something any old school horror fan needs to pick up! Personally I think the comic book is the best of all the extras, I’d love to see that.

What do you guys think? Will you pick up Vampire Circus when it comes out December 14?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  3. In some other hands, this could have been appalling trash – but dreamlike atmosphere, strong script and wonderful score made another jewel in Hammer´s crown! (Funny fact – Lalla Ward of Dr Who fame, wife of antitheist and scientist Richard Dawkins, plays pretty, (tw)incestuos vampire girl!) But this wonderful winter pearl is for Region1 only, isn´t it… sniff!
