CCPGames, the folks behind of Eve Online, have recently announced their next MMO project, and it’s one that’s going to make every vampire lovin’ nerd very happy! Their new project is World of Darkness, and it is going to be set in the universe of White Wolf’s table-top and live action role playing game, Vampire: The Masquerade. Cue the fanboy and girl sequels of joy… now.
According to CCPGames’ site, they have teamed up with the legendary White Wolf to bring us nerdlings new goodies.
CCP hf. and White Wolf Publishing, Inc. announced that the companies have entered into a definitive agreement to merge. The creators of the single largest persistent online role-playing world and the world’s second-largest developer of offline role-playing, strategy and collectable card games will create the industry’s largest independent Virtual World developer. CCP is the publisher and developer of EVE Online, the world’s largest virtual gaming universe. White Wolf is the creator of some of the world’s most recognized role-playing titles including: World of Darkness (Vampire, Werewolf, Mage) and Exalted. The combined company will introduce new online and offline gaming products across the science-fiction, horror, and fantasy genres.
The MMORPG was announced at The Grand Masquerade convention in New Orleans and they even had a little World of Darkness trailer show. You can check out the ridiculously low quality trailer below (as well as some guy’s shiny bald head).
They’re keeping all the good details on the upcoming game pretty hush hush, all they have really said so far is, “[it] will have a focus on player politics and social interaction.” Um, that’s pretty much how all MMOs are. As for the release date, that’s another mystery. Lame.
But at least us geeks are getting a big vampire mmorpg to play!
What do you guys think? I can see a lot of tabletop players being a bit apprehensive about the project. After all, no one likes seeing something they love being turned into trash. But here’s hoping the game rocks!
