Vampires Help Animals Injured by Oil Spill

If you follow the cast of The Vampire Diaries on Twitter then many of you have heard all about this great cause, but if you haven’t then let me fill you in on the awesomeness.

Teenage Chloe Campbell did what most teens do, she posted a video blog online, but unlike others this video made her famous. Not wanting to waste her 15 minutes of fame, Campbell started a fundraising effort to help the animals injured by the Gulf oil spill.

“It’s crazy how one thing can blow up on the Internet,” said Campbell, 16. “I thought, ‘People are interested in what I say right now, what can I do?'”

The Waukee High School junior is a big fan of The Vampire Diaries and made a video of her reaction to the season one finale. The YouTube video was a hit and word of it spread around Twitter – including mentions by the show’s cast members.

Campbell then got in touch one of the show’s writers, who set her up with autographed goodies to be used for an online auction. Vampire Diaries fan sites also donated items to the cause.

Auction items have included signed books, posters, shirts and bags, a copy of the pilot script signed by all of the cast members and a phone call from actress Katerina Graham, who plays Bonnie on the show. They are also selling some kickass shirts, key-chains and more on their site.

All of the money from the auctions will be donated to the National Wildlife Federation.

“I really care about these animals and seeing them oiled and dead – it’s really heartbreaking,” Campbell said.

It’s an amazing cause and you guys should totally check out their official website HERE, there’s loads of information and even pictures of your beloved Vampire Diaries cast helping out.

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
