What is Your Favorite Vampire Series?

There are thousands upon thousands of vampire books that have been written, and with so many out there it makes it difficult to choose which book of the undead you’ll read next. Some people prefer one-shot books, while others adore a series of books that they can really fall into – this post is for the latter. What is your favorite vampire book series? Share in a comment below and recommend series for the rest of us.

Here are five vampire series that I absolutely love.

Vampirates by Justin Somper
This series is geared towards younger readers, but even as an adult I am in love with it. Vampirates follows twins Connor and Grace Tempest, who get separated at sea and are picked up by two entirely different ships. Connor is rescued by a ship of humans, but Grace, she is saved by the Nocturne, the ship of the vampirates. You’ve got vampires and swashbuckling adventures! It’s a perfect combination and the world Somper created is brilliant.

The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
The series of books that forever changed vampires! The legendary Anne Rice created a magnificent collection of books that chronicled the lives of ancient vampires. The books are full of depth, history, and truly captivating characters.

The Cassandra Palmer Series by Karen Chance
This series is like True Blood in ONE way – the main character is a human with special powers who deals with vampire drama on a regular basis. That’s where the similarities end. Cassandra is a medium and clairvoyant who, along with her ghostly best friend, is on the run from a sinister vampire who wishes to use her powers for himself. Along the way, Cassie’s powers grow, as does her list of enemies. She battles it out with the Fae, gods, wizards, and of course, even more vampires. This series is excellent and constantly treats you with unexpected goodies.

The Den of Shadows by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
A collection of books I was obsessed with as a teen. They are very short, quick young adult reads. But they are perfect for vampire lovin’ teens (or adults). I read these books over and over (particularly Demon in My View) – I loved the romance, the sexy vampires, the drama and more. Each book follows different characters, but they are all set in the same world.

The Blood Books by Tanya Huff
The series follows Vicki Nelson, formerly of Toronto’s homicide unit and now a private detective, as she solves crimes throughout the city. Working with her ex-partner Mike Celluci and the vampire Henry Fitzroy, Vicki is thrown into a dark supernatural world. An excellent series for adults, it has steamy romance, crime solving, mystery and more.

Those are five vampire series I love. There are MANY more that I could list off, but I’ll contain myself. Now it’s your turn! What vampire series do you love and which ones would you recommend to the rest of us vampire fans?

  1. I love the Anita Blake series is my #1, Anne Rice’s #3, #4 is The Southern Vampire series.
I also have enjoyed the Trilogy by Guillermo Del Toro, The Strain, but it was a little too scare for me, haha haha!
In romance, JR Ward’s BDB series is awesome and Jeaniene Frost’s Cat & Bones series too.
Yasmine Galenorn’s Otherworld Series has a great vampire I love, Menolly, but it’s not just about vampires.

    1. I almost added Anita Blake to the list. I LOVE the first half of the series, but the recent books from the past few years have been absolute garbage with no plot at all. But those first books are brilliant.

As for the other books, I haven’t read them but I’ll have to look into them. Thanks :) I did buy the first book in Ward’s series, it’s currently sitting in my “to read” pile. So I will read that one soon.

  2. I remember really loving the DARK SHADOWS paperbacks circa 1970. Wish I’d kept them–they’re collectors’ items today!

Somewhat to my surprise I found myself enjoying TWILIGHT when a good friend insisted I read the first one. Not great stuff, but above average in several ways. Like a good cookie.

Anne Rice’s books are more like a very rich, delicious stew. Love it, but can’t eat too much in one sitting.

Brian Lumley’s NECROSCOPE novels are like vampires through a semi-Lovecraft lens, then toss in some anime for the sex.

    1. That’s an excellent description for Anne Rice’s books! I am very much the same way, I can only read so much in a period of time.

  3. Vampirates definitely ranks up the top but I’d have to say Raven Hart’s Vampire series is by far my favorite!

    1. Yay! Another Vampirates fan!
I haven’t heard of Raven Hart’s books, I will have to look into them. Thanks :)

    Vampirates by Justin Somper

The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod by Ellen Hopkins (?)

  9. I used to be all about The vampire Chronicles back in the day. I envied Lestat (everyone seemed to copy her model of the Luis – Lestat relationship) and loved the originality of Akasha; Vampires born of a goddess instead of being a product of the devil, evil, or a virus. However I have come to embrace True Blood – Sookie Stackhouse Series and there knowledge of the Vampire community, politics, allure of the Vampire, and especially the mysteries of the Fae (fairies). Its amazing how much one person knows and separates mythology from general made up fiction…
