WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS Gets Picked-Up
This week brought us news that the forthcoming and much anticipated television series adaptation of Anne Rice’s THE VAMPIRE CHRONICLES had hit a delay, as the proposed showrunner had departed for greener fields. Bummer. But the Internet giveth and the Internet taketh away, and vice versa, too. THE VAMPIRE CHRONICLES may be stuck in neutral, but WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS is moving full-speed ahead. FX has ordered a ten-episode first season of half-hour episodes. Huzzah!
The cast won’t be the same, but creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are serving as executive producers, so that’s promising. In addition to the WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS television series, there is a sequel to the original movie in the works, to be entitled WE’RE WOLVES and featuring the werewolves featured in that film, and yet another proposed TV series to be called WELLINGTON PARANORMAL based on the two bumbling cops from the film. (You remember them.) I’ll gladly take all three with a “please” and a “thank you.”
With THE STRAIN having finished its run on FX, the network needs some fresh vampire material. WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, the series, should be out in the spring of next year.
