Will IT feature THAT scene?
The scene in question is, as everyone who has read the book will already know, the preteen orgy scene, where all the male kids gangbang Beverly. Sounds creepy as hell, dunnit? And you know what? It IS. I hated that scene. I felt it didn’t need to be there. Generally my outlook is to let the creators create, and if you ain’t the creator then you need to take a seat and put a sock in it. Who are any of us to question Stephen King’s decision? It could be that the scene is a potent metaphor for the loss of innocence and the kids passing into adulthood. Then again, it could be that King was jacked-up on coke at the time and wasn’t making the wisest creative decisions. Fortunately the makers of the forthcoming movie had enough sense to nix that scene completely, so it’s a moot point as to whether it is or is not subtextually relevant. ‘Cause it ain’t gonna be there.
In other IT-related news, they’re going to hold a clowns-only screening of the film at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas on September 9th. The move serves as sort of an extending of the middle finger to all those pantywaists who got their feathers ruffled when the venue held a women-only screening of WONDER WOMAN several weeks back. Will those same people be bitching about this stunt, too? Or will they put on their crying clown makeup and attend? No, those types would much rather sit home and bitch behind their computer screens. Only real clowns, and cool weird people, will check out the IT screening. If I lived in Texas, you can bet I’d be putting on some greasepaint.
