Will Josh Hartnett Kill More Vampires Than VanHelsing

Seventeen years after making his breakthrough in the short-lived ABC crime drama “Cracker,” Hartnett is returning to his television roots in “Penny Dreadful.” Set to bow…

the night desk’s insight:
Next Sunday, Showtime is set to premiere its latest horror series ‘Penny Dreadful’ with the most famous of all monsters, vampires, of course. Josh Hartnett plays their “monster eradicator” and hired gun, called Ethan Chandler. He is thrust into this alternate unholy world, which seems to be just below the day to day world we ourselves reside. Chandler has an incredible gift with his side arms, he’s incredibly fast, and when he shoots, he doesn’t miss. This new series is dark, disturbing and a true horror ride. I suspect this could be the next “True Blood” albeit, a darker nightmarish version of itself. Who’s going to tune in next Sunday for the first of many great ‘Penny Dreadful’ shows? I know I am!

Finally….a vampire show that actually has some bite! I’ve always loved stories about vampire killers where the vamps were evil and had to be put down. None of this watered down bulls#*t that we’ve been bombarded with in the past few years. I don’t get Showtime, but I will definitely watch when it comes to dvd or Amazon instant video.
