Will Smith’s Biblical Vampire Film ‘Redemption of Cain’ Gets the Greenlight!

At long last Will Smith’s The Redemption of Cain gets the greenlight! Redemption of Cain is a re-imagining of the Biblical brother tale of Cain and Abel… with “a vampiric twist.” The film was brought up two years ago, with plans for Will Smith to both produce and headline the film (then titled Legend of Cain), but news on the project quickly faded and we hadn’t heard any word on it since. But, reports leaked recently on the project, revealing that the film is on the way and that Smith may not only produce and star in the film, but he just might be directing it as well.

According to the latest news, Sony has given Redemption of Cain a greenlight to begin production in July 2013. Whether or not Smith will be responsible for directing hasn’t actually been confirmed yet, though he is set to produce through Overbrook Entertainment (which backed Smith’s previous vampire film, I Am Legend).

I can’t wait!

For those unfamiliar with the tale of Cain and Abel, let me sum it up in the simplest of ways – Cain and Abel were brothers and the sons of Adam and Eve. Thinking that God loved Abel more, Cain got very jealous and killed his brother, making him the first murderer. As punishment for his crime, Cain was then marked and then set out to wander the Earth. Cain’s curse was to suffer his entire life for what he had done, and anyone who killed Cain, and ended his punishment, would suffer sevenfold.

The idea of Cain being a vampire isn’t a new one, I have heard of authors doing this in the past, but still I am SO geeked for this movie. I love Will Smith and any film with him is going to be a huge blockbuster action flick. So we have some biblical badassery coming our way.

What do you think of The Redemption of Cain?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
