Worms Back From The Dead

This can’t end well. I mean, am I the only one who immediately thought of THE STRAIN? Little white worms? Hell-lo! Worms that were found in the permafrost in Siberia have been thawed out—and they came back to life in petri dishes! One worm was dead and frozen for over 30,000 years! But that one is just a whippersnapper compared to another that is over 40,000 years old! These two worms are now the oldest living animals in the world. You don’t say!

The official name for the worms’ previous undead, frozen condition is “cryobiosis.” (Man, that even SOUNDS menacing, doesn’t it?) So now they are out of cryobiosis and are eating and doing all the other things that living worms do. Oh, and there are some 300 such vampire worms. In case one or two wasn’t enough to worry about.

If one of those nematodes (that’s the fancy name for a roundworm) turns out to be RED, though, we are REALLY screwed. Fans of THE STRAIN will recall that, of all the little worms that contain the consciousness of The Master, it is the single red one that matters most.

The linked article implies that the worms are currently housed in a laboratory in Moscow. So it is in Moscow that the vampire apocalypse will begin.

I am afraid that I CANNOT subscribe to the claim that these worms have “risen from the dead”- true death is IRREVERSIBLE(ie with cessation of higher brain functions- granted worms may not have much of a brain as compared to humans but worms aren’t humans)-they were in a state of suspended animation that’s all!
